Old / dead threads

In an attempt to preserve space, threads that have obviously died a death will be purged on a regular basis after some time.

Old threads that are considered worth keeping, even if no replies have been added for some time, will be kept in this area.

Using what rationale?

It's unfortunate that you will need to delete threads. Is the space problem due to hosting costs?

Re: Old / dead threads

I'm not sure of the reason, Afront, I was simply passing that message on from Matt.

As for as rationale goes, the fewer deletions the better imo. I certainly don't want to lose threads that have information in them, for example. I think it'd just be for something that is, say, relevant only to that particular time it was posted. For example, take TCB's leaving do last night - if there are only 1 or 2 posts a) advertising it, and b) saying "Yes, I might go" then that would not really have much relevance to anything a year (or whatever period Matt decides) down the line.

Surely that must be the only reason for purging old threads.

It's a terrible shame that some will have to go - is there any way around this?

Re: Old / dead threads

As I wrote above, Danny, Matt will have to answer that one I'm afraid.

I don't want to labour the fact that I'm continually ignored (wink) but did we ever determine the answer to this?

Re: Old / dead threads

On the basis that no threads have been deleted yet, other than those containing spam, it hasn't really become an issue yet.

My point about Matt being the only one that can answer re. the space issue is unchanged.
