Recoil London O2 Academy 25th April

Alan Wilder is bringing his Selected roadshow to the UK.

Although I've never been a particular fan of his solo stuff, I would be intrigued to see him live (although I'm still not sure what a Recoil live experience entails).
I doubt if he would slip in any of his DM stuff though, although he still appears happy to be associated with DM and helpout with promo stuff on the odd occasion.

Re: Recoil London O2 Academy 25th April

Has anyone paid attention to the Recoil tour? I certainly have and do feel I've missed out on something special as I didn't have the resources to attend any of the shows.

He's touring with a sort of remixed set list performed with laptops and effects and judging by the clips on youtube it sounds bloody amazing, must be awesome to get this sound blasted in your ears in a club. Just check this out:

And he's even playing a DM song:

But the must cool thing has been the support act at a couple of gigs with Sunroof (aka Gareth Jones and Daniel Miller) doing their unique laptop remix of the Construction Time Again album:

I have heard a rumour that DM and GJ are providing the support to the London show as well. I have dropped a few hints to Matt Northern Kind to spill the beans about what happened at the Hansa studio at Berlin as he was present (his company has done the graphic design for Selected) but haven't heard back from him as of yet.

Re: Recoil London O2 Academy 25th April

This was definately a strange couple of hours. Two chaps under the moniker of Atomizer opened - I thought they were very good. Then a European type chanteuse did a few songs with Paul Kendall looking at his lap top. So so.

Not quite sure what to say about Recoil - although I have never been a huge  fan of his solo stuff (apart from Faith Healer), I must admit that after a few songs it was the aural equivalent of watching paint dry ! Glad in a way that I bothered - but only just. There is only so much of watching two chaps fiddling with a couple of laptops that can hold interest - no matter what visuals are being played on the screen behind.

Mr Miller was in attendance at the rear - shame he and Gareth Jones didn't do a support slot.

Paul Kendall is a really nice guy. I used to know him when he did the sound for Erasure back in 85-86. He was generally happy to stick my tape (remember them?) in the mixing desk for me. In fact, the first time 'Sometimes' was ever performed live (Stockholm, August 86) my tape was in the machine courtesy of PK.

Well who's that shouting? John the Moderator - all he ever gives us is pain!

"Still, at least you get to talk to us, eh?!"
